Do you remember when...
Winter Nights
We met in 2010, on a cold winter night at a local bar.
{She sees him dancing with no shoes, which she learns later in life is: typical}
{He sees her and asks her to dance which he learns later in life is: not hard}
At the time he was still living in Quebec and I was in Ontario. He planned to move back before we met, but I like to think that he moved back even sooner because of it. He was visiting his family for the holidays and I was out celebrating the completion of my first semester of college with a girlfriend. There wasn't anything magical about how we met or started talking, but since then it's been nothing short of a whirlwind.
I had a few things, but nothing of major importance other than my best girl Cedar, my English Bull Terrier. I had finished a degree in Outdoor Education and was onto my second degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, where I dreamed of starting up an outdoor school right in the heart of the Great Lakes. I didn't know it at the time, but my dream was much closer than I had imagined.
Jesse came with a bit more, a lot more in fact, and not just the sickly looking Aloe plant that needed some TLC or the velvet wall hangings but a sail boat and you guessed it... a pretty rusty, beaten up, 1997 International Series school bus. His plan, which soon became ours, was to turn it into a home on wheels, travel around and just be happy.
Now, there's a lot that happens in between that and 2014 when we bought the property, but I won't bore you with that because I want to get to the good stuff. The reason why were all here, the big adventure: the homestead.
After months of back and forth talks about buying land or a house, we finally bit the bullet and purchased 50 acres of bush in the heart of Northern Ontario. Buying land meant a lot of work, but work that we are happy to do. Of course, some days consist of crying and swearing but in the end, seeing what you have created from nothing, is a really good feeling. It also helps that were debt free, but of course, starting from scratch means buying it all. Literally, everything.
The initial idea was to live in our converted school bus while we built a garage/loft. We intended on living there for awhile and then build a permanent house, but that plan quickly disappeared when we decided to get Alpacas! Our house took a back seat to the mythical creatures and we're okay with that, because have you seen how cute Alpacas are? It's worth it!
So yes, we are the crazy neighbors who live in a bus down by the river, with 3 dogs and 20 alpacas and counting.
But let's face it, we're pretty fun, laid back people who just want to explore this world and have fun meeting like minded people in the mean time. We live minimally and are happy to do so, and don't plan on changing that. We've made a commitment to each other and have decided to always travel, have fun, smile, dance, listen to good music, surround ourselves with good people, eat good food and most importantly of all, appreciate life.
This is our journey of not only living in a tiny home, but living sustainability, consciously, within our means, and most importantly, respectfully towards Mother Earth
Thanks for joining our journey.
Hope you enjoy.
